biography
John Thompson was born in 1954 in Driffield, Yorkshire of an Irish father and a German mother. From an early age he showed an interest in art and a love of natural history. His father spent a career in the RAF and much of Johns childhood was spent abroad in Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. He spent some of his schooling in Ireland where most of his free time was spent fishing the rivers and canals around Monasterevan, Co. Kildare.
Johns' passion for art led him to complete a BA in Illustration at Manchester university followed by an MA at the Central School of Art and Design,London. He worked full time as a commercial artist for five years before branching out into painting, sculpting and teaching.He has a house in Co. Fermanagh. and a studio in Horsham, W.Sussex where he is currently working.
John is happily married with two children and continues to travel abroad with his family.
